Here are 5 reasons people in the health field are always preaching about Water:

I’m sure we have all heard the cliche of Without water, everything withers.  It seems like just about everyone in the health and wellness industry is constantly preaching that you should drink more water. According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%. I’m going to help you understand why it is so important to drink water.

  1.  Our bodies are composed of at least 60% of water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature by sweating and respiration.

  2. If you are hydrated, then the gel-like liquid is located between the joints, which gives you a cushion so our bones don’t come in contact. This also provides nutrition, shock absorption, lubrication, and cushioning in the joints. The framework is like a sponge, with the water filling the space to cushion the joint. This process helps to reduce friction in the cartilage and gives you a smooth, sustained motion in the joints. When the fluid is not sufficient, then there is less lubrication in the joints, which can lead to joint pain. It’s estimated that 70 – 80% of your joint cartilage consists of water.

  3. Water helps your brain cells communicate with each other, clears out toxins and waste that impairs brain function, and carries nutrients to your brain. This all falls apart if your fluid levels drop.

  4. Drinking water is great for your skin.  The skin is an organ, and organs need water to function properly. Hydrated skin contributes to its elasticity meaning it’s less likely to crack and have irritations, blemishes, and premature wrinkling. If you want your skin to look clear it’s important to drink more water.

  5. Your blood is more than 90% water. When you’re very dehydrated, your blood volume can decrease, leading to a drop in blood pressure. When blood pressure drops too low, your organs won’t receive the oxygen and nutrients they need. Since everything from your brain to your muscles needs oxygen to function properly, not having enough water can slow down thinking, and reduce performance

To maintain the Zen Life, drinking water is one of the most important ways in which we can make sure our bodies are functioning at their best. Drinking water helps eliminate waste, aid in oxygen reaching your brain, hydrate your muscles so they can perform better, cushion your joints to avoid joint and skeletal pain, and even increase your metabolism. With regular low-intensity exercise and muscle work, you can keep your body functioning at a high level for a very long time.
